I use a rule to move some Mail messages into a different folder. When I read them from that folder, the archive folder still shows them as unread. The only way to get rid of the unread mark is to click into the archive folder and "read" them there.This has been happening since OS 10. Am I the only one who is bothered by this?

Do you have any other rules set up in Mail to move messages to specific folders? If so, do those messages mark as read correctly or do they see a similar behavior?
Testing that can help narrow down what's happening.
Also, please ensure that your OS is fully up-to-date to ensure this isn't something that was addressed in an update: Update macOS on Mac - Apple Support

Thank you for your suggestion. I created another rule for a different address and have confirmed that the same behavior exists for that as well. So it seems that there is a system issue (at least for my system/settings).
That is the only rule I have at the moment that moves messages to a different folder. I will try to duplicate that with a different rule and see what happens.
