Missing Playlists

I’ve discovered that all of my playlists are missing from my phone and pad, songs are in the library but no playlists. Some of these I’ve had for years, what’s up?

iPhone 13 mini, iOS 16

Hi FreshDawg,

We want to help with your playlists.

Were these playlists all on your devices at some point? Do they exist currently on any specific device?

If they came from your computer, you may need to sync the devices with your computer:

Sync music between your Mac and iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If you're an Apple Music subscriber, you'll want to make sure Sync Library is enabled for each device instead:

Use Sync Library to access your music library across your devices

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities.

Hi FreshDawg,

You may be able to retrieve your songs and playlists without Apple Music. How you would go about adding them will depend on where they were added from originally. Were they synced from a computer? If so, you will need to sync with that computer again. Your iPad and iPhone can sync with one computer at a time. When syncing, you will select each song that you want on your device, even those that are already on it. Deselecting them is how to remove them. Check out these steps from Use iTunes to sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with your computer - Apple Support that outline the process.

"Sync or remove content using iTunes

  1. Open iTunes and connect your device to your computer with a USB cable.
  2. Click the device icon in the upper-left corner of the iTunes window. Learn what to do if you don't see the icon
  3. From the list under Settings on the left side of the iTunes window, click the type of content that you want to sync or remove.* To turn syncing on for a content type, select the checkbox next to Sync.
  4. Select the checkbox next to each item that you want to sync.
  5. Click the Apply button in the lower-right corner of the window. If syncing doesn't start automatically, click the Sync button."

Take care.
