message disappears after hitting Send (and is not sent or received)

I have an iPhone 13 that I just updated to 16.5.1 and now, when I paste text into an iMessage and hit Send, the message immediately disappears. I know it is not sent bc the recipient never gets it. So far, it only happens with text copied from a draft email in Apple Mail. It has happened multiple times with different recipients. Other people have asked this very same question on this platform — with hundreds of “I had this problem, too” responses — and no one from Apple has responded. Please let me know if you have a fix!

Did you ever find a fix to this issue? I’m also running into this when copying text from a draft email and pasting it into an iMessage to text to someone.

The same thing happens for me. It doesn’t happen every time… maybe about 70 % of the time. Apparently this problem happens to many, many others. Perhaps the vast majority of users don’t compose text messages this way, and that is why Apple doesn’t seem to care. It is disappointing to see an iOS update after update where Apple simply moves buttons to different locations on the screen (as if that is a big improvement), but doesn’t fix stuff like this. Very frustrating to see cosmetic changes in updates, but real problems like this are ignored. Sorry for the venting!

Thank you. I'm already in touch with Support for weeks bc I updated my iMac at the same time which caused havoc. I knew it was a software update issue. I've been on the phone with multiple senior advisors (two open cases, one the Mail glitch, the other Touch ID) and have sent captured data to the engineers on both issues. There's been no response thus far. I reinstalled the OS even though I knew it wouldn't work. As usual, no one can figure it out. I expect the same to occur with my iPhone. That's why I came here: desperation!
