iPhone Earbud volume too high on MS Teams meetings

How do you turn down the MS Teams volume while in a meeting on an iPhone? It’s so high that it could cause damage. Turning down the volume with the buttons on the side of the phone does nothing. I am unable to find any of the other settings / areas mentioned in the numerous threads posted about MS Teams volume being too high. They must be addressing laptops only and not iPhones?
