how should I use my macbook to optimise its life expectancy?

So I’ve got a new MacBook Air m1 primarily for university which I start in September. I’m there for 4 years but I’m also playing games on it at the moment through the summer. By doing this am I limiting the life expectancy of it and will it last for the next 4-5 years?. I have apple care + so I can get a battery replacement responsibly cheap or even free

Hello keian272,

For battery, you can read the following to learn more about them and how to optimize them!

  1. Batteries - Apple
  2. Batteries - Maximizing Performance - Apple

As for other areas

  1. Don't leave your computer always on
  2. Lower your brightness if you don't need it (also better for your eyes)
  3. Shut down your computer when not using it or when you're not going to use it for a prolonged period of time (such as overnight)

On macOS:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Click Lock Screen

Consider setting the following options! I wouldn't recommend having them set to Never.

Be responsible/careful and don't drop it!
