June 14, 2023 ventura update screwed up my computer in so many ways!

June 14, 2023 ventura update (13.4.1) screwed up my computer in so many ways! Sound does not work. All icons and web addresses on desktop duplicated, but duplicates are inert (i.e., do not respond to anything). Two screens (one from authenticator and one from gmail) cover most of desktop but are also inert. I have never before had a problem with updates, but this one may have ruined my Mac Pro.

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 13.4

Hello frdocok,

We would like to see how we can help you with your Mac issues after updating. Simply using safe mode may resolve these issues. Here are the steps we’ll need to take to do so: Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

"Start up in safe mode

Find out whether you're using a Mac with Apple silicon, then follow the appropriate steps.

If you're using a Mac with Apple silicon

  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. Press and hold the power button on your Mac. As you continue to hold the power button, your Mac turns on and loads startup options. When you see Options, release the power button.
  3. Select your startup disk. It's named Macintosh HD, unless you changed its name.
  4. Press and hold the Shift key, then click the “Continue in Safe Mode” button below your startup disk.
  5. Log in to your Mac. You might be asked to log in again.

If you're using an Intel-based Mac

If you're not using a Mac with Apple silicon, you're using an Intel-based Mac.

  1. Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key as your Mac starts up.
  2. Release the key when you see the login window, then log in to your Mac.
  3. You might be asked to log in again. On either the first or second login window, you should see ”Safe Boot” in the upper-right corner of the window. If you can't start up in safe mode, make sure that your Mac isn't using a firmware password."

After the device boots into safe mode, try to reproduce the problem. If safe mode does not work, or the restart after a successful boot into safe mode does not work, please get back to us.

Cheers!

Just out of correctness.

The Ventura 13.4.1 was only released June 21, 2023

Maybe a date mixed up which is possible. I do that from time to time.

About the security content of macOS Ventura 13.4.1 - Apple Support (CA)

That said, suggest following the previous suggestions above.

Depending on your outcome from the previous suggestion regarding Safe Boot follows by Normal Boot

There could be something in the main User Account playing up.

To further isolate this - Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac. Then log out of the Main User account and log into the dummy account and test again if the issue persists.

6 - If the issue is present in the dummy account - then, this appears to be a System Wide issue on the computer.

7 - Download the Application Etrecheck directly from the Developer.

This is a Diagnostic Tool that makes no changes to the computer.

It makes a coherent and readable inventory of both the Hardware and Software used on the computer

The application is free or paid from added features.
