On your iPhone, look in the Find My app. If your Apple Watch is visible the problem is solved.

However, if the watch has been shut down or run out of battery it will only show its last location for 24 hours. After that time you have to search the old fashioned way using Mk1 Human Eyeballs. Small children may be helpful if you have to resort to a physical search.
