Sync contacts with no icloud

Hello all, I'm trying to fund a way to sync my contacts on my iPhone to my Mac without using iCloud. In the finder or music app there is an option to sync contacts onto the phone but I'm not sure if the will sync my contacts back from the phone to the Mac? There is a checkbox for 'Add new contacts from this iPhone to' but it is greyed out and cannot be changed? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Why not try it and report back your finding...

I will add—

iCloud is the sync service between devices, painless and cost nothing—it is within Apple's secure ecosystem ...

Apple has built a very nice synchronization service. You can of course do what you want to as it's your money and your Mac. But if you search this forum, you'll find posts where people advise using Windows in place of Apple in some cases because that's the best answer for them. Yes, this is an Apple forum ... what do you expect here?

The opinions expressed are those based on an accumulation of user years that likely adds up to centuries of experience. And that experience is saying the iCloud system IS a good one because it IS a good one.

Sorry for the snark, but I have client documents and data that I am contractually obligated to never put onto any 3rd party server so as such I never turn on iCloud on to prevent anything from accidentally backing up to apples cloud server. iCloud syncing is not all or nothing. You can sync nothing but the contacts if that's what you want. But, if you don't think you can trust that, then yes, you may need to use third-party software.

Thank you, but why did I know the answer to how to do something without iCloud would be 'just use iCloud' around here.
