My movies being downgraded

There are a bunch of my movies that were originally purchased or redeemed in 4K or HD that were downgraded to SD. I would like to know if anyone else is having this problem. I reached out to Apple several times, speaking to 13 people and none were able to resolve the problem. Half of these advisors didn’t even understand what I was talking about. Comment if you are familiar with this problem.

Depending on your playback device, there would be an option to stream the SD version of a title (presumably for users with limited and/or metered internet access).

Apple TV box: Settings﹥Apps﹥iTunes Movies and TV Shows﹥Video Quality﹥Good (SD)|Better (HD)|Best (4K if available)

Smart TV or third party streaming device: ⚙️Settings﹥Limit Playback to SD﹥Off|On

Verify those settings.

Me too. I’ve just spotted two movies in my iTunes Movies/Apple Store library that were purchased in HD, but now appear to be SD. I haven’t contacted Apple yet, but it certainly tarnishes the trust I have for the company.

They have rectified one problem this week that I wrote to them about. The store front for film purchases was doubling as an ad for streaming ‘channels’ (such as Studio Canal here in the UK) that did have films available in HD. The problem arose after purchasing a film and finding that the Apple Store’s version was only in SD. The latest Apple TV update has the films marked as HD (or not) in the button you click on to buy it.
