change apple ID on other devices

I have an old ipod touch that still has the old apple ID attached to it. When the ID was changed a couple of years ago, the ipod touch continued to work as far as photo stream and manage icloud account, etc. Now for some reason it's stopped synching and backing up. How do I change the apple ID on the ipod touch to the same as the iphone? Can I do it through icloud.com? Do I need to erase the ipod touch or can it just be updated online? When I go to Apple ID the old one shows up and is grayed out so I can't do it there. When I go to "manage storage" it says icloud storage details are currently unavailable, try again later". I can go to "general" > usage >" and it says the same, icloud details unavailable. Do I need to reset the device? TIA

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! For your iPod touch, you can sign in or change your Apple ID settings by following the steps in the guide below:

Manage Apple ID settings on iPod touch

Sign in with your Apple ID

If you didn’t sign in during setup, do the following:

1. Go to Settings .

2. Tap Sign in to your iPod touch.

3. Enter your Apple ID and password.

4. If you don’t have an Apple ID, you can create one.

5. If you protect your account with two-factor authentication, enter the six-digit verification code.

If you forgot your Apple ID or password, see the Recover your Apple ID website.

Change your Apple ID settings

1. Go to Settings > [your name].

Please note the steps above are for iOS 15, you can change the iOS version by using the drop down in the guide if needed.
