Mouse & Keyboard Battery Draining Quickly

Both my mouse and keyboard batteries are draining rapidly with my Mac Mini. It's very frustrating, because if I don't turn off their batteries they'll be dead within a week at most. I've seen a script to disconnect them after x amount of minutes of non-usage, but my efforts to install the command stalled after uncertainty with the directions. Anyone else having the issue, and did you find any meaningful resolution?
