Just got a pop up saying “we have reason to believe your device has been compromised…” 😳

I logged into one of my credit card apps and got a pop up message saying “we have reason to believe your device has been compromised…” and it said I wouldn’t be able to complete my log in, gave me a ph# to call and I hit “OK.” Help! Did I just give a hacker access by hitting “OK?” I did not call anyone or give info over the phone.

This depends on where you were when you got this pop up. If it was in Safari then it's a Phishing attempt. Never click on anything that pops up like that, and never call the number. Please review this article for more information.

I suggest reviewing this one as well:

If you feel something may be compromised with your banking information, change all passwords and reach out to your bank and let them know.

It's a scam. Just about all of them are, and the bad guys are getting better and better at making the scams look genuine.

If you suspect that there might be a problem with your credit card, log on using your credentials to the credit card site. Never click on a link in a message, which will try to direct to a "look alike" site that will try to trick you into revealing important personal information.

It's no small comfort to know that these types of scams are getting more and more sophisticated. You're being vigilant is the best defense.

One word of advice is: When you receive these, especially related to financial issues, is to call your financial institution to confirm that they sent it. Most, if not all, do not send these. Apple does not send these either.

Take care.
