How can I actually turn off autocorrect?

I switched my autocorrect off several months ago, if not over a year ago, but my phone still "corrects" correctly spelled words to entirely different words for seemingly no reason. One example is changing "time" to "tone" just because it feels like it.

How can I ACTUALLY get iphone to stop "correcting" my writing?

I usually swype to text if relevant.

Thank you!

Hello HL1289,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

Let's verify autocorrect and predictive text is disabled by following these steps:

Use Auto-Correction

Auto-Correction uses your keyboard dictionary to spellcheck words as you type, automatically correcting misspelled words for you. To use it, just type in a text field.

To make sure that Auto-Correction is turned on:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap General > Keyboard.
  3. Turn on Auto-Correction. By default, Auto-Correction is on.

Use predictive text

With predictive text, you can write and complete entire sentences with just a few taps.

As you type, you can see choices for words and phrases you'd probably type next, based on your past conversations, writing style, and even websites you visit in Safari.

To turn predictive text off or on:

  1. Touch and hold the smile emoji  or the globe icon globe icon.
  2. Tap Keyboard Settings, then turn Predictive on or off.

Or go to Settings > General > Keyboard, and turn Predictive on or off."

Additional details can be found here: How to use Auto-Correction and predictive text on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If the issue persists, can you provide a few more details? Do you only notice this within one app? Also, which iPhone and iOS version are you currently using?

Cheers!

I have an iPhone SE with auto correct turned off. (IOS is up to date) Yet it persists in first, correctly typing what I say (using voice to text) and then changing it to something else absurd. It also corrects my use of slang (when I don't want it to), and it constantly drops the first word of a sentence, such as I, and starts with a sentence fragment instead. Many times it typed exactly what I said (I see it), but then it changes to something else before I send. This is a real nuisance.
