Photos will be captured at the full resolution of the iPad camera - and then stored an JPEG, HEIF - or for supported models, RAW.

Available format settings for your iPad Camera are located here:

Settings > Camera > Formats

Otherwise, you can resize (i.e., reduce file-size and image quality) after the images have been captured. To do so you need to identify a third-party App suitable for your needs - or use a shortcut. Here is a link to a pre-built shortcut that can resize images:

To clarify:

  • Most Compatible = JPEG
  • High Efficiency = HEIF

In addition to post-processing images to a smaller file size, some third party camera Apps may offer alternative image capture options. However, consider that capturing images at a smaller file will always reduce the data (and hence clarity and detail). Capturing an image at maximum resolution ensures that you capture as much image detail as the camera sensor allows; post processing to a smaller (and separate) file keeps the original image - rather than forever sacrificing this data at the outset.
