Couldn't delete a public wireless wifi provider configuration profile in iPhone

hi,

I encounter a serious issue of unable to delete the public wifi configuration profile from my iPhone.

Previously installed during for use in a library. Afterwards, decided to delete the app since I no longer in use.

Didn't realise that the configuration profile still remains in my iPhone.

Following steps have been done on my end to resolve this issue:

  1. Reformat of iPhone by clicking "Erase all contents and settings " || -> Phone is reformat for at least 5 times, but nothing could be done to remove this configuration profile !

2.Go to Setting > General > VPN & device management to check for profile configuration || -> No configuration profile is available at all !

3.Go to Setting > Wi-Fi > click "Edit" > go to "Managed Networks" > click on " i " icon that is beside the public wifi configuration profile > check for removal or delete button ? || -> there isn't any removal or delete button at all.

Issues that arise from this public wifi configuration profile :

  1. Incoming unknown sms phishing scam messages
  2. Incoming unknown phishing calls from overseas number
  3. Seems to create issues for safari website data to increase in huge amount, ranging between 50mb to 150mb within a day even when there is no surfing of website prior (already remove and delete safari website data from iPhone storage and also from safari app to monitor this ). Causing overheat issues when charging of iPhone.
  4. Seems to funnel unknown malicious files/data into iPhone, to create disruptive or weird issues for connected devices under the same Private home network. E.g, permissions auto turn off even after turning off the permissions level of television.
  5. Seems to have the ability to funnel malicious data into your home router.

Anyone has any resolution for this removal of configuration profile from iPhone? Already acquire advice from Apple advisor, but only advice given is to seek assistance from the operator of this public wifi. At the current moment, the operator of this public wifi is reviewing the case in the interim since also couldn't resolve this issue after trying their recommended steps.

Hi,

response to the following questions :

  1. its my personal iPhone use. wireless@sgx is a public wifi app that is release to the public for use through apple App Store. any people in Singapore is able to download and use as long they have local registered mobile number.

  1. Yes, it is my personal device. There is no profile installed by any other organisations / business / school entities since it's a public wifi provider that is developed by Singapore local government entity : IMDA (Infocomm development Authority). Purpose of this app is to allow ease of wifi access to any people in Singapore or foreigners.
  • I have tried to re-install the wireless@sgx app, and also re-install the configuration profile. Upon this profile is successfully downloaded, I have proceed to remove and delete under VPN & Device management. Yes, this will temporary successfully remove the configuration profile from Setting > Wi-Fi > Click "Edit" > Check Managed Networks. However, once you reformat the iPhone, this configuration profile will return back to Setting > Wi-Fi > Click "Edit" > Check Managed Networks. Which means, it is not possible to remove permanently.
  • Yes, I have contact IMDA whom is responsible for the development of the app. They claim that it is usually possible to remove and delete from VPN & Device management. They claim that it is abnormal to see for my case.
  • Currently it is under investigation from Apple side, since it is a rare case of not possible for delete and seems to create alot of compromised issues for my device.

Hope this thread serves as a warning for all Singaporeans and assist to help them if they encounter similar situation. Many Singaporeans might not know why a lot of weird issues happen on their iPhone devices, and if so, hope they can check out this thread and see how to adopt the same steps to check on resolving the matter. Similar cases if reflect to apple, will be helpful, since there is higher volume of similar cases.

  1. Is this your corporate iPhone? Then please contact the system administrator of your corporate
  2. If it is your personal device, in that case, do you have any profile installed by your corporate/organisation/enterprise/School Management?
    1. Erase the profile added by you If you have installed a profile on your own --> Install or remove configuration profiles on iPhone - Apple ...
    2. Or please contact the system administrator of the organisation who provided the profile to you

Hi!

I am facing the same issue as you with the mysterious managed network WirelessSGx settings found on my phone and there is no option to delete it as a saved network.

In addition, my MacBook Air has been completely compromised with an absurd amount of un-notarized extensions installed, led me to believe that my entire Apple ID has been compromised and there is no way I can resolve unless I create a brand new Apple ID account and buying a new phone.

Did you manage to hear back from IMDA for a more detailed explanation on this issue? I am thinking of contacting IMDA for but I have a hunch that this error we are facing is way more sophisticated than what they are experience with and they will not be able to provide us with a better proper answer.

Please let me know otherwise if you managed to receive valuable insights and information from them

about this issue.

Lastly, if you have managed to find a fix and solved this riddle please let me know too.
