I'm not by any means a NAS expert, but I pretty sure that a NAS box uses a different drive format than what you need in a normal drive enclosure like the Inateck FE2101.
To use drives in the Inateck FE2101 box, I'm pretty sure that they need to be formatted so the the Mac can read and write to them.
see > Erase and reformat a storage device in Disk Utility on Mac - Apple Support
Keep in mind that erasing and reformatting will wipe an existing data on the drives.
Looks size matters, I can't believe a 500GB has the same power consuption of a 1000GB as they truggle to mount. Keep in mind they are 2 in a single box.
Brand is WD Red for NAS for 1000GB and was SanDisk for 500GB.
Tnx
What made you choose the WD Red NAS, instead of the WD Blue or another brand???

a True Network Attached Storage (NAS) device will run Linux, and provide simulated MacOS file support inside a file.
But this sounds like it is merely an enclosure, and calling those drives NAS drive is just marketing-speak for "sever-type drives". That implies they might be suitable for 24/7 operation, and not much more.
Be sure to ERASE and new drive you get with Disk Utility. Otherwise, it may try to simulate MacOS files system inside a window New Technology File System (NTFS, the W is silent because there ARE no other Operating systems). if the manufacturers drives are not loaded, such as during recovery, the drives may not be accessible.
In my opinion, and external enclosure should have its own power supply. When the Mac sleeps it will reduce the supplied power, and some enclosures behave 'less than gracefully' when that happens.
Tnx.
The drives are out of discussion, I believe.
I'm trying to figure out the power needed crom an external supply. Meanwhile I'm waiting for the producer to know the input voltage (5 or 12V). The 4,5W supplied by the mac's usb-c look to me a little low for two drives even for ssds.
The four rear USB-C ports are all Thunderbolt ports. Each TB port supports about .9A of current.
USB 3.0 @ 5Gbps is plenty fast enough for SATA 2.5" SSDs.
I would try using the supplied USB-A to USB-C cable.

Tnx. That's 4,5W @ 5V.
It may be the cause of a struggling external box (Inateck FE2101) with dual 1TB ssd.
Looking for an external power supply but can't get more than 3W with micro usb plug.
TNX. Is not a matter of speed, but of power as they struggle to mount. Previous 2x500GB weren't a problem.
Transfer rate is a good 300/350 MB/sec.
Ah' OK.
The size of the SSDs should not matter.
What brand were the 500GB SSDs and how were they formatted?
What brand are the 1T SSDs and how are they formatted?
They were in a NAS.
