I have a separate voice track to added to my video track (from a different mic).
I can detach the original audio no problem.
Syncing the new one is also relatively easy.
However can I attach or lock the new one?
If i split clip then only the movie is split and not the audio.
I can highlight both and do this, but with multiple clips this is long winded and prone to errors.
How can I lock the audio track/s to the video clips?

Evey time you select both the video and audio clip, and then do a Modify/Split Clip, both the video and audio clip will be spit at the place where you put the playhead. Each audio segment automatically will be coupled (locked) with couplings to the corresponding video segment above it. If you move the video clip segment along the timeline, the audio clip segment will move with it.
However, the above only works if you have placed the original detached audio clip in the audio well immediately
below the video clip so that it was coupled to the video. If you have placed it in a lower well, the split segments will not be coupled.

Video editing can be an unavoidably tedious process at times.
Generally, it is easier first to edit the video clips and then do the editing on the audio clips. So, move the video clips around to the locations you want in the timeline, with your transitions, etc, and then conform the audio.
