Why Remove and reinsert SIM?

I keep getting this notification on my iPhone: "Remove and reinsert the SIM to keep using [mobile phone number] for iMessage and FaceTime." Why?

Being told to remove a SIM to keep iMessage and FaceTime, but I have an eSIM! Periodically a message appears saying I will lose the use of my phone number for iMessage and FaceTime and to prevent this I should remove and reinsert the SIM card. I don't have a physical SIM card; I only use an eSIM. So how do I get rid of this message?
