Auto Caption / Better Scene Removal

When I started learning Final Cut, I would upload the video to YouTube just to get the SRT file, and then I'd upload the SRT file in FCP. However, it took so much time. Then I discovered Descript and MacWhisper, but the SRT file isn't customizable in FCP, so I have to manually copy and paste the SRT file to create a customizable title in FCP, which is really frustrating.

So I looked for other options and found Captionator, but I ended up refunding it because it wasn't accurate enough. The best option I've found so far for captions is Capcut. After I finish editing in FCP, I export the audio to Capcut to add the captions, and then I bring it back to FCP. I just wish we had auto-captioning and a better scene removal mask in FCP, as I have to rely on other software like Capcut to get all the features that are missing in FCP. If making Final Cut Pro a subscription service is what it takes to get all these features, then so be it.

I agree that a built-in transcript facility would be very good to have.

You should let Apple know of your wishes by using feedback from inside FCP:

Final Cut Pro->Provide Final Cut Pro Feedback.

There is a part of your post that I don't follow: what do mean by "the SRT file isn't customizable in FCP"? And why is that specifically said about those two applications, but not others that also generate SRT? What I am missing?

Is there something different in the SRT produced by these applications?

One of the great things about text formats like SRT is that we can easily manipulate them using a plethora of text tools, in case we need to adjust them.

Caption display is at the mercy of whatever device will be used to playback.

If you want full customizability, you need to use titles instead - which I now realize is what you are doing.

Since you were talking about captions throughout your initial post, I assumed that is what all the different tools provided.

There were some nice tools, by a former contributor to this forum, that allowed one to convert between captions and titles, but they are not available anymore.
