Security update shows as paused

I am trying to download the latest security update 16.5.1. It starts to download and then shows as paused. Later I get an error message. I have plenty of storage so it’s not that. Any idea ?

Hi dympna162,

Thank you for this additional detail.

First, let's check if there is an update that is already downloaded on your device.

If yes, please erase that update then download it again.

  1. "Go to Settings > General > [Device name] Storage.
  2. Find the update in the list of apps.
  3. Tap the update, then tap Delete Update.
  4. Go to Settings > General > Software Update and download the latest update."

If that is not the case, please try a different known-good Wi-Fi network.

Based on the screenshot you've provided, the issue you are experiencing is likely network related.

Hello dympna162,

To start, you'll want to add the error message you're getting to your post. This will help community members better understand what the issue is so more relevant responses are provided.

In the meantime, here's some general steps you can try for update issues: If your iPhone or iPad won't update

Two important conditions to install an update:

  1. Make sure the battery currently has adequate charge. If it's below 50% the update will not install until it is charged.
  2. Make sure the device is connected to a Wi-Fi network.

Cheers!
