If I reset my iMac to factory settings can I get my old operating system back?

I updated my mistake and got Ventura on my iMac. I want to go back to the old system as I have programs that do not work now. I have time machine but it is a new one that only has Ventura on it. I have everything backed up on Time Machine so if I can restore to factory settings I dont mind starting again.

#7 of the referring article is what you need. Did you do as it instructed? This to be more exact: How to reinstall macOS - Apple Support

Read the full procedure first and follow it precisely; choose the OS you want but realize you can't go back any further than the original OS your Mac shipped with. You declined to say what year iMac you have, and much depends on that.

What's wrong with Ventura? Runs great for us on three Macs.
