I updated my mistake and got Ventura on my iMac. I want to go back to the old system as I have programs that do not work now. I have time machine but it is a new one that only has Ventura on it. I have everything backed up on Time Machine so if I can restore to factory settings I dont mind starting again.

Erasing is erasing ... everything will be gone from the disk.
If you plan on the Mac being usable as a computer, you must install an OS.
To preserve your data you need to make backups with Time Machine, or some other app, before you erase.

I suppose so, though you lost your data.
No I have all my data which is why I can do a reset to factory if I know how to do it.
I have everything backed up and I don't mind erasing EVERYTHING. I just need to know if after I have erased how do I get a new operating system on.
If I reset my iMac to factory settings can I get my old operating system back?
