Disk Utility not loading when external hard drive is plugged in

My external hard drive isn't showing up anymore. I've restarted my computer, I've restarted in safe mode as well still no luck. When I open disk utility I just get the spinning loading wheel and it says loading disks underneath. I also try to list my disks in terminal with this prompt "diskutil list" and nothing happens at all. Once I unplug my external hard drive, all disks load as normal. any remedies? I'm running Ventura OS
