iPadOS taking up more than 50GB of storage

My ipad keeps saying that more than 75% of it's storage is being taken by iPadOS but when I scroll down to the bottom of the ipad storage settings page to see exactly how many GB it's taking up it says that it is only taking up 8.58 GB. So then what is actually taking up all of my storage? How do I fix this?
