Text recipient of apple playlist list says they are unable to play the playlist

I have created a playlist of songs which are not for purchase, my own tracks, and I shared the playlist via a link.

I shared the link to the playlist with someone via text and they said that when they click on play nothing happens.

Do you know why?

I however am able to push play within the text stream and the playlist plays.

Are you not able to share a playlist of songs that are your own and not for purchase via apple playlist?

The sharing option works just fine. When you share a playlist, you share references to the music files. For many users those are links to the song in the iTunes Store or in Apple Music. If you’re sharing a playlist comprised only of your own music, the music files are not sent along with the playlist. You’ll need to send your friend your music.
