Old ipod touch and photo stream

I noticed a few weeks ago my photos stopped coming to my photo stream. Upon further investigation it appears Apple has discontinued photo stream. My ipod touch does not have a "photo library" so I can no longer use this ipod to view photos! Why does Apple make devices obsolete this way? Now I need to purchase a new ipod in order to use photo stream unless someone has another suggestion. Thanks in advance

There are no more iPods. Apple discontinued the 7th-generation iPod Touch in May 2022.

You could probably buy an unlocked iPhone, never sign up with a phone company for cellular service, and then use the iPhone as if it were an iPod Touch. When I bought my iPhone, I had to wait for my carrier to mail me the nano-SIM. As I recall, I could use everything but cell-phone-related functions while I was waiting.

Whether you get new hardware or not, My Photo Stream is dead. iCloud Photos is very much alive – and a new iPhone or iPad would be able to use iCloud Photos.
