I have an older iMac running 10.13.6 high sierra OS I’m wanting to download some photos from an iPhone into a created folder. However, my iMac is telling me that in order for me to do that I need to update my iPhoto. When I try to do that, it’s telling me that it was either refunded or purchased under a different Apple ID. I purchased the computer used from an individual, so how do I update my photo app so I can back up my photos

When you turned on the Mac the very first time, did you get a set up screen? If you didn't have to go though set up, that essentially means the computer is still electronically "owned" by the person from whom you bought it.
