You may want to check, if you are having items in your Photos Library that cannot be processed by Photos. Damaged items or items in an older format, that is no longer supported on your current system version can be blocking the progress of the face recognition.

Which system version is running on your Mac? After the upgrade to macOS 10.15 Catalina some older video codecs and image codecs are no longer supported, see this list for iMovie to see which codecs to look for: About legacy media in iMovie for macOS - Apple Support

Where is your Photos Library stored? The face recognition may also have problems, if your Photos Library is on an incompatible external disk. If you are keeping your Photos Library on an external drive, make sure, the external drive has been prepared as described here: Move your Photos library to save space on your Mac - Apple Support. It is essential that the external drive has a wired connection, has not been used for Time Machine backups, and the file system format needs to be MacOS Extended (Journaled) or APFS.

Leonie, thanks for answering. I have a Mac mini 2023, macOS Ventura 13.4.1 (c).

The library is in my computer. I do not know much about computers but I have had many problems with photos after every update. I have many faces in the "people" album many of which I do not recognize and people from family members are not there. Let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks

B
