MacBook Air M2 Ventura 13.4.1 (c) drain battery

Hi everyone,

In early July 2023 I bought an MB Air M2 with Monterey pre-installed. I upgraded without initializing to macOS Ventura 13.4.1 (c) and using only Safari and Firefox I noticed that compared to Monterey the battery (only 3 charge cycles) wears out faster, it drops visibly!

Why?

How to fix?

Thanks

MacBook Air, macOS 13.4

Hi there John436,

If you've noticed issues with battery life on your MacBook Air, start by working through all the suggestions in the 'Tips for MacBook Air and MacBook Pro' section of this link: Batteries - Maximizing Performance - Apple

You can also adjust some battery settings with the guidance here: Change Battery settings on a Mac laptop - Apple Support

Also, it's possible that the content on your Mac may still be reindexing after completing the upgrade to macOS Ventura, which can use more battery power than normal. We'd suggest waiting a few days after upgrading, then reach out to Apple Support directly for further assistance if you're still noticing battery life issues. This link will help you get started: Apple Support

Take care.

The current stable release of Ventura including bug fixes, security updates is macOS Ventura 13.5

I would start there and compare your results.

The rule of thumb—if you are near the mains leave it plugged in, if you need the portability then run on the battery only—this is how you optimize your battery charging and extend the working life of your battery by reducing the cycle count.
