the Mac user guide does not go back that far. the current version has this suggestion:
it appears that in your slightly older version, rather than the pointy things, the word "Hide " or "Show" will appear when you hover. Click on that word to take the action the word suggests.

Sorry. I am new to this. When I put my mouse over one of the main topics the HIDE button comes up. I had plugged in an external hard drive and accidentally hit HIDE under location and now I cannot access my external hard drive.
On MacBook pro the FINDER app has a HIDE button that you see when you run your mouse over it. How do I restore the HIDE button after I have hit it?
I don't think I have any such button.
what version of MacOS are you running?
what part of the Finder display has this button? can you post a screenshot of what you are seeing/not seeing?
