Issue with music disappearing from your iTunes Cloud account/Apple devices

I will upload a CD I've purchased and I receive confirmation that the cloud has been updated. At some point I will go to listen to the entire CD and for example will find 1 - 2 songs out of 15 or a song might be duplicated.

When I look for a song that I know I "own" and have listened to previously on my various devices, Siri will tell me it doesn't exist in my Library, and proceeds to open Apple Music and asks if I want to subscribe to the streaming service to hear it.

I have a particular song that I'm using for this example called One Blood, don't listen to it because it's an angry song. Sometimes a girl just needs an angry song to jump start the day. This is a song that I own and it is on one of my iPad Mini's (just checked and played this morning). The device is signed into my only Apple ID and is set to sync with the Cloud. The song is not available on my newer iPad, an old MacBook Pro and a new MacBook Air. If everything is supposed to sync to the cloud, why am I unable to access the Library that is on the older iPad? Shouldn't the cloud reconcile information that is on the 4 different devices? Cloud and device storage is not an issue and I don't randomly delete songs from my devices.

I have used backup files to restore my Library. I've also spent nights and weekends inserting CD's into a drive and uploading them again and doing a new sync with the cloud. This has been going on for a few years now and although I've worked with support, the issue has never cleared up. It's not the end of the world, but I feel like I'm being pushed to sign up for a streaming service to alleviate my frustration.

Hi MissDinSC,

While an Apple Music subscription is not a requirement, the alternative is to subscribe to the iTunes Match service as described at Subscribe to iTunes Match. This service predates the Apple Music subscription and those are the only 2 services by which music you don't purchase from the iTunes Store can be synced across devices via iCloud. Music purchased from iTunes will be accessible across all devices signed in with the same account, and you may opt to sync multiple devices to a computer where these songs are stored but that last method does not use iCloud.

Regards.

Hello MissDinSC,

The Sync Library feature helps to keep your music library in sync across your Apple devices.

This feature is available when subscribed to Apple Music, and this page can help out with providing information on it, and where to enable it, for referencing: Use Sync Library to access your music library across your devices - Apple Support

If you subscribe to Apple Music, you can access your music library, including your playlists, on any device that has the Apple Music app and signed in with the same Apple ID that you use with your Apple Music subscription.

With regards to duplicate items in the Music app, this page can help out with that: Find duplicate items in Music on Mac - Apple Support

Cheers.

iTunes Match ended up only working for about half the music that was in my library. All of my other downloaded cd’s are lost. I also had music in my library that were just under the name “track 01, track 02” etc. that never came back.

I’ve just decided going forward because I don’t want this to be an issue when downloading from a cd, to use a usb drive to listen to my music. I’ve cancelled my subscription with iTunes Match.

I downloaded all my CD’s to my MAC years ago. No longer own a Mac but all the music I downloaded has disappeared recently and it’s extremely frustrating to the point where I’m seriously considering switching to droid. My music is very important to me and for Apple to just going in and delete it is very wrong. I’ve tried pretty much everything to redownload all my music. Most of my music can’t be replaced. That just ****** me off even more. I don’t stream music using Apple Music and never will and shouldn’t be forced too. Kid at the Apple Store says to me “you could just purchase the songs again”. My thoughts “seriously what are you even saying right now. I’ll leave Apple before I spend the money to buy them again, when I already purchased the CD’s years ago, but no longer have access to them. What apple’s doing is so wrong.

This is part of my problem. The only device that has all of my music is my older iPad. There’s no way to reverse sync. When I plug in the iPad and complete the back up to the MacBook Air and attempt to drag and drop songs to the computer, it lets me highlight the song, but not drag and drop. I have a subscription to Genius Match and only use one Apple ID. I’m receiving conflicting information even when using the links provided in these replies.
