Horizontal lines on my Mac Screen

Hello everyone,

It is my first time writing in here.

I would like to ask if somebody had the same issue as mine - Horizontal lines on the screen while the Mac is on.I've had an appointment ant they told me that I need to change my screen. Just because this is quite serious for me I would like to ask if somebody else had the same issue, and if yes - how did you sorted out?

Thank you in advance.

Horizontal lines on the screen of a Mac can be caused by various factors, including hardware and software issues. It's not uncommon for users to encounter this problem, and the solutions can vary depending on the root cause. Here are some common reasons for horizontal lines on a Mac's screen and potential ways to resolve the issue:

  1. Loose or Faulty Display Cable: Sometimes, the problem can be as simple as a loose or damaged display cable. If the cable connecting the display to the Mac's logic board is not properly connected or has become faulty, it can result in horizontal lines or other display abnormalities. In this case, a qualified technician can open the Mac and check the cable's connection or replace it if necessary.
  2. Graphics Card or GPU Issue: A malfunctioning graphics card or GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) can also cause horizontal lines on the screen. If the issue is related to the GPU, it might require more extensive repairs or even a replacement of the graphics card. This would typically be performed by an authorized Apple service provider.
  3. Software or Driver Issue: In some cases, the problem might be related to a software or driver issue. Updating macOS to the latest version or reinstalling/updating graphics drivers might help resolve the problem.
  4. Physical Damage or Spillage: If the Mac has suffered any physical damage or liquid spillage, it could affect the display and result in horizontal lines. In such cases, repairing or replacing the affected components may be necessary.
  5. Failing Display Panel: Over time, display panels can deteriorate or develop faults, leading to display issues like horizontal lines. If the display panel itself is the problem, replacing the screen might be the only solution.

If the Apple Store or an authorized service provider has recommended changing the screen, it's possible that they have identified a hardware issue with the display panel. Before proceeding with any repairs, you could consider getting a second opinion from another Apple service provider or a reputable third-party repair shop to ensure that the diagnosis is accurate.

Remember that any repairs or replacements on Apple devices should ideally be performed by authorized technicians to maintain warranty coverage and ensure high-quality service. If your Mac is still under warranty, it's best to have it repaired by Apple or an authorized service provider.

Additionally, be sure to back up your important data before sending your Mac for repair, as there is always a slight risk of data loss during hardware repairs.
