Is there a QR code for a desktop computer?
iMac, MacOS Ventura, Version 13.4.1
Is there a QR code app I could use on my desktop? And if so, how could I use it?
Thank you for a response.

I guess it is not so simple with with the computer. What QR code app would work for the computer, or is it not possible at all without a phone, tablet or Laptop?
A QR code is a pattern of contrasting colored squares that represent some text, such as a web address or a Wi-Fi network passcode, or various other things. Scanning a QR code involves a camera or hand-held scanner, and a whole lot of image processing.
Seeing a QR code in a store will do nothing for your Mac, though your Android or an iPhone or iPad can “scan” the code. With the Android, you could then mail the web address to your Mac from your Android. iPhone and iPad can also scan QR codes embedded in saved photos, too.
To scan a QR code on a Mac, you will need both an add-on app to scan the code, and a webcam if your Mac doesn’t already have one, or a hand-held code scanner device or such. And you’ll have to hold the code up up to the webcam to scan it. Or to the handheld scanner Or will need an app that can scan a QR code from an image.
FWIW, QR Capture in the App Store is supposed to be able to scan using a camera or the screen. Never tried so don't know how well it works.
Some of the apps in the Mac App Store will let you scan QR codes by holding them up close to the iMac's screen, facing the built-in camera at the top center of the screen.
There are several in the Mac Store, and each one might work slightly differently. But in general, you get the QR code into the computer, and then let the software read it.
Do you have a specific question?

+1
Go into the App Store, sign in with your Apple ID and browse.

There are plenty of free websites that can anonymously generate QR codes. If you have a specific need describe what it is.
I just generated the following QR code to mad magazine. Aim your iPhone (iOS 16.6) camera at it, focus, and tap the image in the camera app to open Safari on the iPhone to that website.

QR codes are used for many purposes, and with various ways to scan and to generate QR codes.
What particular QR codes are you interested in? Are you scanning, or generating?
Looks promising.
Thank you very much for your response. How would I get an add-on app?
