Unable to accept home invitation

I am using an iPhone 11 with iOS 16.6. Since the release of the new Home architecture I have been unable to join my home via an invitation (I was kicked out after the update). Whenever I try to accept it says "connecting to home" and after a few minutes "unable to join". I tried accepting on my m1pro mbp which is using version 13.4.1 (c) of Ventura but it failed as well. I also signed out of my Apple Id on my iPhone but the issue remains. Other people invited to Home were able to join without any problems so I assume it has something to do with my Apple ID. Any suggestion?

For us nothing helps. Not even updating to latest iOS 🤷🏻‍♂️

Hello kjell243 ,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities, and we'll be happy to help in any way we can. We understand you're having issues with unable to join Home. Follow the steps here to see if they resolve the issue: Share control of your home

"Invite someone to control your home

If Home has been upgraded to the new Home architecture, you must set up a home hub to share control of your home.

To invite someone to control your home, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Home app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
  2. Tap or click the More button , then select Home Settings. If you have multiple homes set up, choose the Home that you want to invite someone to, then select Home Settings.
  3. Tap or click Invite People.
  4. iPhone with Home app showing Invite People option in Home Settings

  5. Enter the person's Apple ID that they use with iCloud.
  6. Tap or click Send Invite.

Find out what to do if you can't invite someone to control your home.

Accept an invitation to control a home

  1. Open the Home app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
  2. Tap or click the More button .
  3. Select Home Settings .
  4. Select View under Invitations.
  5. Select Accept, then Done.
  6. iPhone with a home invitation in the Home app

After you accept the invite, tap or click the More button , then select the name of the home to control it.

Allow remote access and edit permissions for users

If you set up a home hub, you can manage remote access and edit permissions for people that you invite to control your home. If you don't have a home hub set up, they can only control your accessories while they're at your home, connected to your home Wi-Fi network, and within range of your accessories. Matter-enabled accessories require a home hub, such as Apple TV 4K or HomePod mini.

You can manage remote access and edit permissions for people that you invite to control your home.

  1. Open the Home app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
  2. Tap or click the More button , then select Home Settings. If you have multiple homes, choose a home, then select Home Settings.
  3. Under People, select the person that you want to edit permissions for, then choose the following:
    • Control Accessories Remotely: Turn on to allow users to control your accessories from any location. Turn off to allow users to only control your accessories while they're at your home and connected to your Wi-Fi network.
    • Add and Edit Accessories: Turn on to allow users to add and remove accessories, scenes, automations, and other users.
  1. Tap or click Back, then Done.

Shared users can't add HomePod, Apple TV, or any AirPlay-compatible smart TVs or speakers to the Home app. You can only add these devices if you're the owner of the home in the Home app.

Stop sharing your home with someone

  1. Open the Home app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
  2. Tap or click the More button , then select Home Settings. If you have multiple homes, choose a home, then select Home Settings.
  3. Under People, tap or click the user that you want to remove from your home.
  4. Tap or click Remove Person.

If you remove someone from the Home app, they might still be able to control any accessories if they had permissions to do so in a separate app for that accessory. To remove those permissions, use the accessory's app, check its manual, or contact the manufacturer.

Leave a home you were invited to share

  1. Open the Home app on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
  2. Tap or click the More button , then select Home Settings. If you're a member of multiple homes, choose the home that you want to leave, then select Home Settings.
  3. Scroll down and tap or click Leave Home.
  4. Tap or click Leave.

If you can't share control of a home

Do more with the Home app

We hope this helps.

Cheers!

I have tried all of what is suggested. The strange thing is that for one person I shared with they were able to accept and control with their laptop but not on their phone. I can accept theirs but they cannot accept mine. On my side it shows them as good but on their side the joining screen just spins and then times out.

And me, I did a restore on my iPhone Xs Max and since then have not been able to join back into the Home Hub that was working perfectly before the restore ..... Even tried to attach a new item that is not a part of the original Home hub and that fails as well .... ??? Have tried all of the suggestion that I have found on the internet and all of them are useless... wondering when Apple will finally take care of this problem since I do not seem to be the only one that is struggling with getting reconnected to a Home Hub that is already set up and working fine ?!

A couple of pictures to show my repeated results ...
