Kids iPads one minute glitch gives infinite time allowance

Hi,

my kids have worked out if the simultaneously press the ask for one minute screen time, it actually gives them infinite time. They normally have to request screen time and I enter a passcode. How is this happening? When it’s on downtime?!

Ali_E1,

My kids have done the same thing. I am an IT Professional and all the ScreenTime settings are correct. I have two child phones under management in ScreenTime and they have discovered that if one of them selects One More Minute in an app FIVE seconds after the other selected One More Minute, they get infinite time on that app as long as they keep it in the foreground. They don't even have to do it simultaneously. This is hideous security, in fact it's really no security at all, and Apple needs to fix it immediately.

Hello Helpfulbears,

There are a few settings we can check to make sure everything is set up correctly with their Screen Time accounts. If you haven't already, try these steps.

• Go to Settings > Screen Time > Downtime, and ensure that "Block at Downtime" is enabled. When you're using a passcode, choosing this setting and they click Ask For More Time when Downtime starts, entering the passcode allows you to approve the app for 15 minutes, an hour, or all day.

• Go to Settings > Screen Time > App Limits, and ensure you have "Block at End of Limit" enabled for each app they are not allowed to use.

• Go to Settings > Screen Time > Always Allowed, and make sure you do not have any unwanted apps allowed here. These apps are allowed even during Downtime.

Use Screen Time on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch explains these steps.

If you still have issues with them manipulating Ask to Buy after confirming their settings, try toggling Ask to Buy off and on again. This will allow the "Ask to" system find a fresh connection.

How to turn on or turn off Ask to Buy
If you're a parent or guardian, use your own device to turn on or turn off Ask to Buy.
On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
1. Open the Settings app.
2. Tap your name.
3. Tap Family Sharing.
4. Tap your family member's name, then tap Ask to Buy.

We look forward to learning how it goes.
