My system and ios data is taking 40% of my whole storage

I have a 64 gb ip xr and data files are taking upto 26gb data what am i supposed to do cant even install a game more than 2gb or else i have to delete photos or apps which i need

iPhone XR, iOS 16

iOS has some persistent storage management bugs that can prevent on-device storage from being properly released into the Free pool sometimes, whether in System Data, Files, or other apps. Sometimes the issue corrects itself with time, but if not, the solution is generally to make a backup of the device, erase the device, and restore from backup.


Inconvenient, but unfortunately no other way that I have found, and a long talk with Apple Support did not offer any better solutions.
