"sender address was invalid" error

I've set up a new email account (Mail client) successfully on my Mac and partially so on my phone. The issue is the account on the iPhone will receive mail but cannot send and gives the error message "sender address was invalid".


The strange thing is it has worked twice (after deleting and reinstalling the account) but will not do so thereafter.


does not seem to be anything awry in account settings - anyone with any ideas on how to fix ?
