Why does messages say people who are in my contacts are not in my contacts?

I can type in the name in the address bar and the number comes up, and vice versa, yet when I get a message from them it says they are not in my contacts and I can label the message junk. How can I fix this? I have opened contacts, and all the information is there and correct.

Hey there pen4hire,

Thanks for reaching out.

Does this happen with existing message threads or only new messages being received from that contact? Take a look at the contacts that are affected in the Contacts app to make sure the numbers are in the correct format:

Add and use contact information on iPhone - Apple Support

If you still see only their number and not the contact's name, reach out to Apple directly for additional guidance: Get Support

Take care!
