Shared Reminder List Not Updating

My husband and I utilize several shared reminder lists. Recently they have been failing to updates when one of the other of us has added or removed items from the list. We are both signed into iCloud, running iOS 16.5.1, have tried deleting and re-sharing the lists without any success. It doesn’t seem to matter whether we are connected to Wi-Fi or utilizing cellular network.

Thanks for the help.

I have done all of the following steps to remedy the lists not updating and nothing has worked. I am experiencing this problem over a year later. I have the most updated iOS at the time of writing (17.3). The reminders are one of the most used native apps I have. I want a reliable fix that actually makes the lists useful. I hate that so many times i will look at stuff like the shopping list feature that you provide and it doesnt even work right because there were actually many more items my wife adds and i cant see. The app effectively becomes useless when i have to sign in and out of iCloud and deleting the app or constantly refreshing and it does not work. Please fix this. I am getting so tired of basic native apps not working. It makes us look to so many other alternatives

I've been having this same problem -- I couldn't see what changes my partner made on shared lists, but they could see what changes I made. I tried everything that was suggested here, but finally found the solution...iCloud storage space.

I came across this post - Reddit: Reminders 17.0.1 not syncing on family iphones - and before I did anything else, I checked the iCloud storage space for myself and my partner.

I had plenty of iCloud storage space, but my partner's iCloud storage was full. Once my partner freed up space, the lists synced on my end and I was able to see all the changes they were making on their end.

Hopefully this works! Again, the only thing I did was make room for in iCloud account storage that was full (in this case, my partner's).

If your shared Reminder list on your iPhone isn't updating, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve this issue:

  • Check Your Internet Connection: Make sure your iPhone has a stable internet connection, as the Reminders app needs to sync with iCloud to update your reminders.
  • Check Your iCloud Settings: You need to ensure that Reminders are set to sync with iCloud.
    • Go to "Settings".
    • Tap on your name at the top to access "Apple ID, iCloud, iTunes & App Store".
    • Tap "iCloud".
    • Ensure that the switch next to "Reminders" is turned on/green.
  • Refresh Reminders App:
    • Open Reminders app and pull down from the top of the list to refresh the Reminders.
  • Restart Your iPhone: If the issue persists, try restarting your iPhone. This can often resolve small glitches.
  • Update iOS: Ensure your iPhone is running the latest version of iOS. To check, go to "Settings" > "General" > "Software Update".
  • Sign out and back into iCloud:
    • Go to "Settings" > [your name] > "Sign Out" at the bottom.
    • Enter your Apple ID password and choose "Turn Off".
    • After signing out, sign back in by going to the "Settings" app and tapping "Sign in to your iPhone" at the top.
  • Check Shared List Settings:
    • Open the Reminders app and navigate to the shared list.
    • Tap "Edit" in the upper right corner.
    • Tap "Sharing" and make sure the people you want to share the list with are there. If they aren't, you can add them by tapping "Add Person...".

Remember that any changes you make in your iCloud settings or by signing out of your iCloud account can affect other aspects of your device, so proceed with caution. If none of these steps work, you may need to contact Apple Support for further help.

Thanks!
