Watch is showing up in Bluetooth pairing setup on Mac OS Ventura

Watch is showing up in “Bluetooth pairing” options screen on Mac OS Ventura 13.5.

Is this my Apple watch? Cause I thought they couldn’t be paired by Bluetooth or at all other than as an iTunes Remote.

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 13.5

Hey ifunkyb! Good question!

So with macOS, you may see your Apple Watch or even your iPhone if Bluetooth is enabled on both, however neither can be manually paired, (or tethered), this way anymore because this process is already done automatically in the right circumstances with the newer Apple software and hardware.

Are you having an issue that’s prompting you to try to pair your Mac with your watch?

Cheers.

That’s what I had figured but I had never seen watch show up in Bluetooth before. The name of the watch was just Watch. Not my personalized nickname for my device. Apple knows my devices names before I pair or tether thru BT. This struck me as odd and so I thought I should ask. I’ve been seeing a lot of Tom foolery happening since the year began between watch and iPhone. I’ve been able to successfully intercept handoff tasks, Bluetooth connection to AirPods, MacBook text forwarding, FaceTime forwarding, etc. I Wanted to make sure I wasn’t hacking myself again. lol, jk. Although, I’ve learned everything I know very selfishly. Without instruction, play it by ear. This has cost me a fortune over the years but has taught me so much, that 95% of my support calls over the past 20 years, I always end up educating the tier 2 and 3 techs when they don’t have a solution. lol, Apple is really good about having an educated tech support crew so imagine my phone calls with Cox customer support. Literally the dumbest thing you can do with any part of your human life is to ever sign a con-tract with Cox Communications. Going Off topic as usual. Although, this will be a good opportunity for someone to educate me on “thread etiquette” and get some Apple points! Yaya!

Pairing is a very specific process. It used to almost always require that a code be entered. It used to be the only way devices interacted using BT. However, newer BT protocols, Bluetooth LE, if I recall correctly, can do things without pairing, including unlocking your Mac with an Apple Watch. Or almost all of the Continuity features. They require that BT be enabled on both devices but you don't need to do anything else.

Yup, no worries, I’m always learning new things, just when I think I know something inside and out, the truth smacks me in my face 😂, but that’s also not a bad way to learn. ASC/discussions is always a great place to go to get quality info, from other wise people like the ones that also commented in this thread 🙂!
