Hi. My iPad has exploded! It's been forced open by black 'cushions' inside expanding. Any ideas?

Those “black cushions” are the iPad Li-ion batteries - that have expanded due to a serious fault. Do not attempt to use or charge the iPad under any circumstances.
Keep the iPad away from any flammable or combustible surfaces or materials.
You need to immediately contact Apple Support for assistance - or take the iPad to an Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) where safe disposal of the batteries can be arranged.
