Music has started mislabeling everything as a single wrong artist and album. It resists me attempting to add the old album back

I had an album that wasn't loading correctly: Life of Agony's River Runs Red had three different versions. This happens. Track 1 in the first River Runs Red. In the second River Runs Red, track 10. In the third, countless songs that have been mislabled and placed here for some reason. There are also a lot of duplicates. I can live with that, but I can't possibly re-lable all of this!

Here's a close up of a song, which should be Ozzy Osbourne's on the album Osmosis:

It retained the album artwork, but for some reason changed the album and band. The album is not listed under Ozzy Osbourne any more at all.

I can check on the source, and there it is, properly labeled and backed up:

I try to add the correct album in the correct place to Apple Music by the click and drag. Nothing happens. It just rejects it.

I try to go to import the album via the file menu: nothing. No error, no change. Nothing.

I would really like to keep my playlists, otherwise I would just wipe the ****** thing and start over.

I have no idea why this happened, how it happened, or how to fix it.

Any help?

I should add: MacBook Pro 13-inch M1, 2020 running Ventura 13.4.1

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 13.4

Greetings nkfromportland,

Thanks for those screenshots, they do illustrate well what you’re encountering.

One question that’s going to help us lead some troubleshooting, are you an Apple Music subscriber? This is important since if you are, the service is matching the music in your library.

If you are not, we’d like to have you create a new library in the Music app, add the albums in question and see if the something occurs. After doing this, you’ll then be able to boot back to your original library without losing any data. Use multiple libraries in Music on Mac

Create or choose a library
1. In the Music app on your Mac, choose Music > Quit Music.
2. Hold down the Option key while you reopen Music.
3. In the window that appears, do one of the following:
* Create a new library: Click Create Library.
* Choose a different library: Click Choose Library.
You can name your new library (the folder containing your Music content) whatever you like. For best results, if you create additional music libraries, don’t name the new libraries “Music” or “New Music.” Make sure each library has a unique name so you’ll know which is which.

After you open the new library then please import those albums. Import music from a computer to Music on Mac

1. In the Music app on your Mac, choose File > Add To Library or File > Import.
If you selected “Copy files to Music Media folder when adding to library” in Files settings, you see File > Import.
2. Locate a file or folder, then click Open.
If you add a folder, all the files it contains are added to your library.

Thanks.

Hello nkfromportland,

If the behavior has persisted after taking the steps listed above we recommend reaching out for additional support in your region here: Get Support

In addition, review the guidance listed here: Access your music library on all your devices - Apple Support

Your music library can keep the following available in the cloud:
* Up to 100,000 songs, not including songs (or music videos) purchased from the iTunes Store; files can be no larger than 200 MB
* Matched songs (songs available in the iTunes Store, whether or not you purchased them there) at iTunes Plus quality (256 kbps DRM-free AAC) and other songs at their original quality

Regards.
