Old Mac with Genius Bar

I have an old MBP, 2009 I think, 13" running Snow Leopard. It seems to have stopped working with an external monitor I have, connecting via a Display Port Mini to Display Port cable. The monitor doesn't see it's signal, although the MBP knows the display is connected. It used to, just not anymore.

Before I purchase a new monitor, can I march into a Apple Store, to a Genius Bar, and see if there's an issue with the cable or the Mac, even though it's a ridiculously old Mac? I would hope they'd have a display there that has a Display Port jack, where they can test the cable or my Mac.

Don't just look at the Genius Bar. Many Apple Authorized Service Providers stock spare older parts to test with. http://www.apple.com/buy

You definitely want to verify the problem isn't your displayport adapter, and see if another presents the same problem. You can find a number of good Moshi adapters with mini-displayport online.

But bring the monitor with you, as they may have an adapter to connect to the monitor, and bring the adapter, to see if they can test it.

Hi,

They should have it, though I suppose they don' have such old monitor, however they could check your MacBook Pro and cable.

By the way, your monitor is working if you connect other Mac or PC?

I don't have another computer that outputs from a Display Port Mini. And I was just concerned that the Genius Bar, when first eyeing my old computer, would just say "sorry, we don't touch those". Kinda like bring a iPhone 4 into a ATT store.
