I press the up volume button and home button for second , but no matter what I point the camera at it only shows the Home Screen. I even reversed the phone and got the same results.

Pointing your camera is insufficient. You must open the Camera app and view what you wish to be in your screenshot.
Based on what you've written, I think you're confused. A screen shot will NEVER involve pointing your camera at anything. A screen shot does exactly what it says, capture a photo of whatever is on your screen. If you need your camera to take a photo, use the camera app.
