Audio cut-out when video streaming between MacBook Air and Bose 700 Headphones

Streaming Netflix and other video services on MacBook Air 2020(M1) using Bose 700 headphones. Have continuous audio cut out. Spoke with Apple Support and tried in safe mode, reinstalling OS and updating software to Ventura 13.5. Nothing works. Bose headphones work fine with older 2013 Air, also with streaming music from iPhone 11. I have also performed all fixes for Bose with their support and even replaced headphones with new ones. Anyone else encounter this problem with a newer Air and Bose.

I'm embarrassed to admit but I just tried something for the first time and it seems to have worked. When I turn on my Bose they automatically pair up to both my Air and my iphone. I turned off my iphone's bluetooth to unpair it to the headphones and I am no longer having audio issues with video on my laptop. I suppose the dual pairing is what caused the on-going dropouts with the audio.

I turned off my iphone's bluetooth to unpair it to the headphones and I am no longer having audio issues with video on my laptop. I suppose the dual pairing is what caused the on-going dropouts with the audio.

Troubleshoot the Mac's Bluetooth:

B. Try a New Admin User:

What happens when you create a new administrator user, and try performing this? Do you still get this error? If not, then it is likely an error with the current user. If so, then it is likely an error with your Mac or the macOS.


For future reference...

C. "Reset the Bluetooth Module":

See my User Tip: Use "Reset the Bluetooth module" to Fix Constant Bluetooth Disconnections - User Tip, Looking at my first comment on it, recommended to Apple that they bring this option back. They discontinued it on even macOS versions.

As I mentioned in my reply in my User Tip, Apple canned "Reset the Bluetooth Module" when Monterey was released. So, that why you are not seeing it. So, what else to go by...


Troubleshoot the Mac Audio:


What to Try:

  • Unmute the App:

If an app has its own audio input and output settings, then perform things on the app itself.


  • Remove External Devices:

Verify what your output item is.


  • Disable Bluetooth:

If there are any microphones nearby, then they may be getting in the way via bluetooth.


See if an app is permitted to use your microphone.


(Applies to Intel-Based Macs Only) Sometimes when changes are made to the system(i.e. updates), system configurations (i.e. for Sound) become manipulated, technically. So, reset the SMC and NVRAM.


  • Boot into Safe Mode:

When you boot into Safe Mode, items load by default, with certain settings and caches set aside. So, hold down the shift key upon boot. See what happens then.


  • Create a New Administrator:

See if creating and logging in as a new administrator does the trick. There may be something misconfigured in your current user - something that is getting in the way. Go to: System Preferences > Users & Groups > Unlock > Click: "+" > Create the new administrator

Thank you for all that helpful information. I created and logged onto a New Admin User to test but problem still exists. Seems like resetting my Bluetooth module would be a way to go but going through the steps of your User Tip, there is no option to debug on my current laptop/OS. Would I have to use Terminal and enter commands, etc.? This is a little beyond my experience but if you think it would help, I'll try to figure out how to do it.
