I don’t remember my Apple id

I am trying to log into my Mac and I do not remember the password . I tried to reset it using my Apple ID , but it will not let me.

MacBook Air 13″, 10.15

Unless they have changed things radically a password to log into a computer is not the same as your Apple ID password.
