iTunes Extra

Is it it all just a lottery whether or not you get iTunes extra.

Some movies gets upgraded to 4K for free, just like Apple promised in their keynote. Other movies also gets iTunes extra with that same update, and that’s awesome.

Both of these movies I bought in HD, as they weren’t in 4K back then.

But weirdly enough:

National Lampoons Christmas Vacation got upgraded to 4K with iTunes extra.

National Lampoons Vacation got upgraded to 4K without iTunes extra. But the movie is available for purchase agin in 4K with iTunes extra.

Why do I need to buy the same movie again to get iTunes extra, when I got it automatically on the other movie?

Is it all just a coin toss ?

Well, Apple support came back with an answer for me, and sadly it is a coin toss. They couldn't tell me why some movies gets iTunes extra when upgraded, and why some doesn't. But in any case, the only way to get iTunes extra on some movies you already purchased, is to buy them once again, while on others you are just lucky.

This have certainly made me reevaluate my future purchases on iTunes. My primary reason for choosing Apple for my digital purchases was for the continuous upgrades to 4K and iTunes extra. Now I might as well buy where its cheapest.

Fool Me Once, Shame on You; Fool Me Twice, Shame on Me...

Now to pass on the bad news both here and on the many movie forums, including the one I administrate.
