How to charge my fifth-generation 60GB iPod with clickwheel?

I've just replaced the battery in my otherwise-perfect fifth generation iPod but am having trouble charging the machine. I've been using the charger that came with the machine ("iPod USB Power Adapter," dated 2006, with 5V/1A output). Is it chargeable on a more recent--i.e. more powerful--charger??

With no experience of iPods myself, am wondering if the info. below can help answer your questions:


First: To identify your iPod type by it's model number:

Then: On this (link below) web page : you can choose chargers in the left column,

and then choose your iPod type by scrolling down underneath that,

to see the compatible chargers Apple recommends displayed.
