The monthly Apple Care+ uses the payment methods added to your Apple ID in the order they appear in. Apple Care+ does not get its own payment methods outside of the Apple ID.
If your iPhone is using a different Apple ID to the one you used when you bought the iPhone and set up Apple Care+, then you will need to log in to that account to change the payment methods being used by Apple Care+.
