All 4 of my email accounts are being diverted to my business email account

Earlier last week I had to set up my Mail accounts (1 x business account, 1 xGmail and 2 other non-Gmail accounts) on a 'backup' computer, as my MacBook Pro had been left elsewhere, and although I was able (using iCloud) to reset and access all emails on the replacement computer, because my business account is a POP account, there were no emails within the server for my business account as they old ones are on my Laptop, however, not a real issue for a few days, as I was due to retrieve my MacBook.

Some clients have BTinternet accounts which I can not send to from my business account (no reason given by BTInternet.com), so I have to send via my Gmail account and have previously set a copy/divert rule within Rules, specifically for their email addresses, to avoid missing emails from them, when they reply or contact me.

I had changed no Rules up to this point.

All worked well for several days, but suddenly ALL my Gmail emails started to be copied over to my business account (several hundred per day!) to swamp my business account Inbox!

I can see no Rule or other reference within Mail Rules or Gmail Settings which might cause this.

I have now put in a rule (WITHIN Mail on my Mac)to colour the Gmail emails Purple, so as to try to differentiate business from mainly rubbish Gmails.

If the flood of current Gmail emails to my business account was not enough, suddenly 3 days ago I start getting 100s of old Gmail emails also landing in my current business Mailbox (where I generally receive a couple of dozen emails), but I have altered nothing.

This has now caused my business ISP to put my email on hold as there is 'unexpected' activity on my account!!

2 Points:

  1. I thought that Rules set within Mail Preferences applied only to that computer. Is this not the case?
  2. Why are ALL my Gmail emails being diverted to my non-Gmail account, without instruction??

Is anyone else suffering or has suffered from this?

For problem accounts the go to way to sort things out is to delete the account(s) from the Mail.app, then add it back.

Note—

IMAP accounts stay on the server, so no local loss, when you re-sync

POP accounts download and remove from the server—therefor save your inbox/sent box if you want them

“On My Mac" is just that, local folders you created and moved mail into. So no loss
