Pages Crashing during Copy & Paste from Word

I'm working on a newsletter and I've been plagued with multiple crashes when I try to copy over a chunk of text from Microsoft Word (Office for Mac '08). It doesn't matter if its one paragraph or sentence, it still crashes!

Has anyone else had similar issues and is there a solution?

My first thought is there is something odd/corrupt in the text you're trying to paste. Possibly the easiest thing to try is Edit > Paste and Match Style. This will make the pasted text take on the characteristics/style set in the Pages document. Assuming the Pages document isn't using a corrupt font, this should work.

Have you tried opening the Word document in Pages or TextEdit & then copying the text from there? If this doesn't work, perhaps whoever created the Word file could save it as plain text or RTF & send that to you.

I'm having the same issue with Word 2004 pasting text to Pages. I also cannot open Word documents from Pages.

I tried the "paste and match style" and it still crashes. It gives me the "Pages quit unexpectedly while using the SF compatiblity plug-in." Pasting from other apps seems to work fine. Pasting from Word into KN or Numbers is also fine.

This has been happening since I had to reinstall system with new HD and then I transferred Office '04 over to this harddrive manually without the install cd's. Could that be part of the problem?

Ok, so here's a weird thing. Had the same crash everyone else reports - pasting from a Word document into Pages 09 everything went well until I hit a particular paragraph that kept crashing my Pages doc. I copied the thing to TextEdit, removed formats, saved as .rtf, changed fonts, did everything I could imagine to remove any offending code that could be crashing Pages. Subsequent paragraphs from my Word document cause no problem. Now here's the weird part: Since I needed that particular piece of text and copying the paragraph kept causing crashes , I actually TYPED the text into Pages - see there, when I reached a particular phrase the thing CRASHED AGAIN!!! Huh?? Now how can that be?? Of course, I thought it was something about the length of the pages doc and started typing all kinds of other things to try it out - no problem, but when I typed the offending text from my Word doc, crashing we go. Any insight is highly appreciated...

I just did. Brand new, blank document, when copied from Word - crash. Pages restarted, brand new, blank document, I type the text -crash!!! It seems we've found something here... Be careful, as some dead girl might be coming from the well through your TV (The Ring 1 and 2).

The offending text is (in Times New Roman, 11 pt):

In addition, as these were considered indirect effects of AOE’s presence in the area, impacts caused by the building of a new road running parallel to the flow line and by other human activities were also assessed to identify their role in environmental/biodiversity changes.

Yes to everything. Good thinking about copying and pasting from the Safari page, but amazingly enough, Pages crashes too!! The error report keeps insisting it's a problem with the SFWordProcessing plugin, but that doesn't explain why it would crash with that particular piece of text even when I type it from scratch... I tell ya', some mysterious forces at work here!
